French Healthcare
Carte Vitale Application
Three months after you arrive in France, you are eligible to apply for French healthcare, which provides coverage for up to 70% of your medical expenses in France. We start by making sure you have all the necessary documents: notably, a copy of your passport or valid ID, proof that you have been living in France for more than 3 months, proof of address such as a utility bill (at least 3 months old), birth certificate, French bank details. We send this information to your local Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM) and once we have received your social security number, we request your carte Vitale.
Mutuelle Top-Up Insurance
Once your carte Vitale has arrived and we have opened your account on Amélie (the French health platform), we can help you take out a ‘mutuelle’ or top-up insurance. This pays the difference between the cost of medical services covered by your carte Vitale, and others that are not (such as private hospital room, certain specialist treatments, dental prosthetics etc).
Cancellation of Mandatory Private Cover or S1 Cover
With your carte Vitale and ‘mutuelle’ insurance in place, you have the option to cancel your mandatory private cover or S1 cover. This transition allows you to enjoy full healthcare coverage in France while optimizing your insurance plan to meet your specific needs. Working with our insurance partner, we handle this process for you.
