For those who want to live in France without working. You must prove sufficient financial resources to support yourself without employment.
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended stay. At least 2 blank pages.
Completed and signed. Available from France-Visas.gouv.fr.
Recent (less than 6 months), 35x45mm, white background, no glasses.
Rental agreement, property deed, or attestation d'hébergement from host.
Bank statements (last 3–6 months) showing minimum €1,500/month income or equivalent savings.
The minimum varies by consulate. Some require €1,800–€2,000/month for a couple.
Comprehensive coverage valid in France for the first year. Must cover repatriation.
French public healthcare (CPAM) is not available until you have your carte de séjour.
Written declaration that you will not undertake any professional activity in France.
Property ownership, family ties, or other evidence of intent to maintain connections.
Not always required but strengthens your application.
Explaining your motivation for living in France and your plans.
Highly recommended. Write in French if possible.
If applying as a couple, apostilled and translated.
